Rory McIlroy is competing at the 2024 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. The Northern Irish golfer has teamed up with his dad, Gerry McIlroy, as the event features pros and amateurs for the team championship.
Rory was walking towards the clubhouse after round three with his dad and playing partners Yasir Al-Rumayyan and Dean Burmester. Suddenly, he stopped walking as he saw his dad’s golf swing on the big screen.
The DP World Tour shared this wholesome video on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption:
“Just a son watching his and his Dad’s golf swings.”
The big screen showed a comparison of Rory’s golf swing with his dad, which caught his attention. The 35-year-old had a smile on his face as he laughed with Dean Burmester, his dad, and Yasir Al-Rumayyan.
This moment makes it more wholesome as Gerry McIlroy is celebrating his 65th birthday today. During the press conference after round one, Rory said strolling around the Old Course on his dad’s birthday is pretty cool.
“Lovely to be out here with him. We’ve done this a few times before. It’s his 65th birthday on Saturday. So, to be able to stroll around the Old Course with him on the 65th is going to be a pretty cool occasion. Delighted to be out here with him,” Rory said.
Unfortunately, the McIlroy father-son will not play the final round of the 2024 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in the team championship, as only the top 20 golfers will make it to the final day. Rory McIlroy and his dad finished T101 after the third round as they carded -19 for the event.
